Hospitality rooted in Mandawa.
A hospitality interior shaped by the atmosphere and material memory of Mandawa.
Vision & brief
Mandawa Kothi is a hospitality property whose character precedes ASD Studio’s involvement. Architect Sanjay Kothari undertook its initial architectural development. ASD’s later contribution concerns enhancements and subsequent development, with interiors and landscape forming the recorded scope. The design story is therefore one of continuity rather than original authorship of the property.
Design response
The task is to introduce contemporary comfort without overwhelming the atmosphere that gives the place its identity. A courtyard setting depends on the relationship between open space, thresholds and the rooms around it. Later interventions must be read within that larger whole, allowing the existing architectural character to remain the principal reference.
Material & detail
The approach described here favours quiet changes in material, furnishing and the experience of outdoor space. Local character and the rhythms of the courtyard provide the framework for those decisions. Rather than attributing every photographed architectural feature to ASD, the gallery should be understood as a view of the property within which the later work sits. The development-phase credits below distinguish the initial architect’s contribution from ASD Studio’s subsequent role.
Project credits & development phases
Initial development — Architect Sanjay Kothari. Mandawa Kothi’s initial architectural development was undertaken by Architect Sanjay Kothari, whose contribution established the foundation for the property.
Later enhancements & development — ASD Studio. ASD Studio became involved in a later phase, contributing to enhancements and subsequent development of the property. Our role builds on the initial architectural work; credit for that early phase remains with Architect Sanjay Kothari.
