A quiet retreat above the everyday.
A comfortable residential interior developed as a quiet retreat above a working hospital.
Vision & brief
Dr. Mehla Residence in Sikar addresses an unusually close relationship between home and working life: a residential interior above a hospital. The home is conceived as a quieter domestic setting, with privacy, rest and everyday routines forming the centre of the design narrative.
Design response
The contrast with the workplace below makes the feeling of arrival particularly important. Within the residence, a restrained visual language and integrated storage keep attention on the rooms themselves rather than on an accumulation of objects. Shared living offers a setting for family time, while the private spaces sustain the more withdrawn character expected of a home.
Material & detail
Warm illumination and a measured palette give the interior its composure. The project’s quality is expressed through the balance of useful storage, clear surfaces and places to sit and rest. Its defining idea is a change of pace: a domestic atmosphere that remains close to working life, but offers a setting in which attention can turn towards home.
