Layers of privacy and light.
A contemporary Jaipur residence composed with deep balconies, layered screens and planted thresholds that temper privacy, heat and street presence.
Vision & brief
Ankur Kedia Residence in Jagatpura, Jaipur, balances a contemporary street presence with the privacy of home. Layered balconies, screens and planted thresholds shape the architecture, replacing a flat, exposed elevation with a succession of sheltered edges.
Design response
The principal design question is how to remain open to daylight while giving the rooms a degree of withdrawal from the street. Deep balcony edges and intervening screens create a sequence between the public frontage and the interior. The elevation is therefore read through depth and shadow as much as through its outline.
Material & detail
Planting introduces a softer layer within the architectural frames. The balcony becomes more than an attached feature: it mediates the relationship between house and neighbourhood. A restrained composition allows depth, shade and the changing reading of the façade to establish the home’s character.
